Has God Spoken - By Hank Hanegraaff

Published by The WordCaster under Uncategorized

As with other of his books, Hank Hanegraaff has produced a great apologetic assist for born again believers.  He has the ability to present the material in a manner that enables the new believer as well as the mature to understand it and subsequently be able to explain it to others.

There is no doubt that the bible is divine rather than human in origin.  Some religious leaders would have us take this solely on blind faith.  Hank provides the information that we can use to not only believe it but to have a faith that is based upon fact.

Great book to have as part of your apologetics library.

Our Last Great Hope - by Dr. Ronnie Floyd

Published by The WordCaster under Uncategorized

Dr. Ronnie Floyd has put together an exposition of the biblical truth contained in the Great Commission.  The book is an encouragement to fullfil it by not simply giving, but going.  It is the carrying out of our responsibility as born again believers in Jesus Christ that needs to be accomplished.  It is the task to which we have ben called.

My rating of the book is due to the slow manner in which it reads.  It is as if a sermon on the Great Commission was lengthened in order to make it a book.  I do believe this is a book that new believers need to read, as well as those who have allowed their walk with our Lord to grow stagnant.

Book Review: Be The People - A call to reclaim America’s faith & promise, by Carol M. Swain, PhD

The older I get, the more concerned I am about this great nation of ours.  It is a historical fact that the founding fathers, and those who sent them to Philadelphia to create two of the greatest documents ever written - The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America - viewed life through a biblical world view.  Because of this, the fabric of our founding is inseparably interwoven with Judeo-Christian values.

Since the propagation of Darwinian evolution, there has been a systematic attack to try and eliminate these truths from history, and replace them with secular humanism.

Enter Dr. Carol Swain, a renowned professor of political science and law at Vanderbilt University, and also a member of the James Madison Society at Princeton University, where she was a tenured professor.  Dr. Swain understands the precipice upon which our nation finds itself and has written a national call to the American people to reclaim the faith and promise intended by for our nation by the God who allowed it to be founded.

A refreshing, reinvigorating read.  Get it, study it, and allow yourself to be inspired by it.

Book Review: No He Can’t - How Barak Obama is dismantling hope and change, by Kevin McCullough

When I first saw this book I wondered if it was going to be another conservative talk-show hosts rants about the failure of our current president.  While it may make for good radio, reading rants can get old pretty quick.  I saw that former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee had written the forward, and cringed even more.  Listening to Huckabee on TV never holds my attention for very long.  Finally, being committed to follow through with reading the book and writing a review, I decided to plod on.  I opened the book, and began reading.

Glad I did!  While I still had to force myself to read the forward, once I hit the first chapter of the book I found it was not a series of rerun rants, but an insightful treatise with substantive research and reporting about the failures of President Obama, and why it should not be a surprise.

As the 2012 election season begins to spin up, I want to strongly recommend you read McCullough’s book so that you will be able to combat the lies and rhetoric soon to be pitched from the Obama campaign machine.

Need to up the ante in the debt ceiling negotiations

The debt ceiling soap opera continues.  After pulling out the ultimate senior citizen scare tactic of not paying social security checks in August, President Obama reportedly stormed out of the White House meetings with congressional leaders when challenged on the veracity of his numbers by congressman Cantor.  The question that must be asked, “Is Obama sensing he is going to have to give into the Republican demands and is unable to deal with it without losing his demeanor?”

Today, another conservative victory was won in Minnesota when the democrat governor gave into the demands of the republican legislative majority over the states budget.  After almost two weeks of a government shutdown, the governor blinked and accepted the immovable resolve of the Minnesota republican leaders.  When viewed in the context of the debt ceiling negotiations, the Minnesota conservative victory may just be a foreboding pattern of liberal surrender that will be seen by the Obama established August 2nd deadline.

If the possibility of an Obama cave is in the offing, the Republicans need to reach for the ultimate deal.  Grant the debt ceiling increase being sought by the president in exchange for the full repeal of Obamacare (Affordable Health Choices Act).  Now that would not only be a conservative victory, but a near coup!

We must use this opportunity to get more than spending reductions

The latest information from inside the beltway is that Speaker Boehner (R–Ohio) is opting for a $2T reduction in spending over some as of yet stated number of years, versus the $4T over 10-12 years that has been floated by the White House this past week. The $4T being discussed included tax increases. GOP conservatives will not vote for any deal that includes tax increases.

All of this comes on the heals of the Bill Kristol prediction that the Republications would cave to the pressure to increase the debt ceiling without exacting trillions in spending cuts. Boehner, stinging from this pointed criticism, tried to dispel Kristol’s prediction, but his actions today actually confirm it.

Lost in all of the reporting is the fact that our current year budget deficit is estimated to be $1.5 trillion. Neither $4T over ten years or $2T over any extended number of years is going to have an impact on the ongoing spending binge of our federal government.

The thirty-third straight month of deficit spending has just rolled by. The national unemployment figure now stands at 9.2%, up from the previous month of 9.1%. The Obama economic plan has not worked. The Republicans should be emboldened to negotiate from a position of strength. Boehner is not seizing the opportunity.

In actuality, the United States Government does not have to default on the interest payments. Every month there is at least $120B coming into the government coffers. The $20B monthly debt can be paid from those funds. The $100B left over may then be used to fund only the essential services of the federal government, just as in a shutdown, until a balanced budget is passed by congress and signed by the President.

One last thing needs to be exacted during this pivotal time of negotiations – a balanced budget amendment to our United States Constitution. This would force our representatives to annually deal with the reality of limited federal revenue for a limited federal government.
